Nick Halley directs
Capella Regalis Men & Boys Choir: To Bethlehem With Kings
with Paul Halley and the Maritime Brass Quintet
Fri, Dec 21, 2018 from 7pm - 9:30pm
Join in Christmas festivities with Halifax's own Capella Regalis Men & Boys Choir, directed by Nick Halley. To Bethlehem With Kings offers a traditional and heart-warming evening of beautiful carols for Christmas, ancient and modern, performed by this choir of men and boys in the European tradition. For the Halifax performance, the choir will be joined by the Maritime Brass Quintet, and Paul Halley on pipe organ. The concert opens with a Gregorian chant for Christmastime sung in procession, and segues into the boy soprano solo that starts the well-known hymn “Once in Royal David’s City”. From there, the program brings us along the journey from Advent to Christmas with carols ranging from early Renaissance polyphony to majestic arrangements for choir and brass to sweet and simple melodies beautifully arranged by 20th-century composers. The concert will include opportunities for audience participation on four hymn-carols.
