Cecilia Concerts presents: Violinist Lara St. John

This event has passed.

The Los Angeles Times called former child prodigy and Juno award winner Lara St. John “a volcanic violinist with a huge, fabulous tone that pours out of her like molten lava.” Pianist, composer, and arranger Matt Herskowitz, has produced critically acclaimed recordings, premiered works in New York’s Central Park, collaborated with top classical, jazz and pop artists, and performed at music festivals across the globe. For this breath-taking and dazzlingly unique Halifax concert, Lara performs on the 1779 Salabue Guadagnini violin, combining the highly charged technique of a classical virtuoso with Matt Herskowitz’s prowess in jazz, world music, and free improvisation. Together they will perform Béla Bartók’s Rhapsody No. 2, Sz. 89 and 90, BB 96, Maurice Ravel's Violin Sonata No. 2 in G major, Ludwig Van Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 8 in G major, Op. 30 No. 3, along with works by George Gershwin and Martin Kennedy.

This concert opens with a special performance by strings students from the Scotia Suzuki School of Music.
