Halifax Summer Opera Festival presents L'Incoronazione di Poppea, a Baroque opera by Claudio Monteverdi

Sun, Aug 5, 2018 at 2pm

This event has passed.

Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea is one of the milestones in operatic history, and the first work to be based on the lives of real historical figures rather than the gods and goddesses of mythology who peopled earlier scenarios. Our modern noir production brings these morally ambiguous characters to vivid life, in a wonderfully intimate venue. With live musicians, wonderful young singers and some of the most beautiful music ever written, this will be an extraordinary event.

In Italian, with projected English translations. Fully-staged and costumed and accompanied by keyboard and cello continuo.

These performances feature talented young singers from across Canada and the United States in town for the 14th annual Halifax Summer Opera Festival, a competitive opera training program. This is an opportunity to hear first class young singers in an intimate venue.

Tickets available with a credit card through TIcket Halifax online or at 902-422-6278, ext 500, or at The Coast's office in Halifax with cash, debit and credit.
