Exploring Collaborative Design
with Anna Shepard

Tue, Mar 3, 2020 from 6pm - 8pm

This event has passed.

Location Note: As "the Bunker" is difficult to find if you have not already been there the 2b Student Reps will be hanging out on the 5th floor of the Dal Arts Centre near the couches to escourt you to the room. Feel free to email keelyolstad@gmail.com if you have concerns about finding the room.

This workshop will provide a playground for artists to collaboratively explore storytelling from a design first approach. Participants will be tasked with finding possible connections between pieces of found text and everyday materials, such as fabric, paper, cellophane, gel, mirrors, paperclips, as well as a variety of light sources and projected material. The workshop will function as a brainstorming session and a chance to meet with potential collaborators — please feel free bring any pieces of text (stories, essays, poetry, images, photographs), as well as any materials you are interested in playing with. Materials could include, but are not limited to, fabric, light sources (not including open flame), reflective material, household objects, cool rocks etc. At the end of the session participants will leave with a collection of ideas seeds that could grow into future works.

About the Artist:

Anna Shepard is a multidisciplinary artist based in K'jipuktuk/Halifax, currently working in direction, projection design, and devised creation. She is particularly interested in work that is viscerally engaging, investigates the complexities of its characters, and harnesses the social and political voice inherent to live performance. Shepard is a graduate of the drama program at Mount Allison University, was the 2017/18 Emerging-Artist-In-Residence at 2b theatre company, and recently trained with Ghost River Theatre in Calgary as part of their National Devised Theatre Intensive. She is currently part of the 2019/20 Directing Unit of the Chrysalis Project at Neptune Theatre.
